Dimensional analysis of BIW (Professional-2016)

The project was part of a 6 months internship at Tata Motors, Pune. The objective was to carry out a dimensional analysis of Body-In-White (BIW) i.e. an automobile's welded sheet metal parts/chassis parts, for 3 models-Tata Bolt, Tata Zest and Tata Indica. And thence a correlation was made between customer requirements and the product technical specifications. Finally, a House-of-Quality / Quality table was generated connecting all the data.

Below is a snap from the table for the issues related to tail-gate for Tata Bolt. In all, around 50-60 issues were collected and analysed from the reports of last 2 months for each model.
The ‘●’ indicates strong relation and ‘Δ’ indicates weak relation. The X-axis denotes the technical requirements for the product that are the critical points being located & analysed on BIW by CMM (Coordinate measuring machine), that measures around 130-150 points for each model, and Y-axis denotes customer requirements that are the reported internal & external customer issues.
This was a newly initiated project in the department with the purpose of analysing and finding the root cause for the dimensional errors in an automobile following a downstream process flow starting from Assembly down-till Welding stage. Hence, I also created a process flow chart for further undertaking and future references.
